Blog from the Boundary – vs Mears Ashby 3rd XI, 21st May 2022

The boys were at home today. The Skipper lost the toss and so the Foxes started out in the field. JJ, Tim and Rob making their first appearance of the season

Ricki and Rob opened the bowling, with no early wickets, Mears Ashby started strongly posting 52/0 off the first 10 overs. a change of Bowling saw Justin and tony brought into the attack, the change helped, when in the 13th over Tiger brought the first wicket by bowling the opener.

Mears Ashby continuing their strong start with a score of 97/1 off 22 overs. Big D and Shizzle came into the bowling attack, and in the 27th Over Big D took wicket of the other opener.

with the score at 160/2 off 30 overs, JJ and Rick then came into the attack and brought about a great spell for the Foxes with 4 wickets falling in 3 overs, JJ grabbing 3 wickets with a catch from Justin and a blinding low catch from Rob, Ricki also getting in on the action and grabbing a wicket. 186/6 from 35 overs.

Rick managed to grab another wicket in the last over with a good catch from Tiger. Mears Asby finishing on 207/7 from their 40 overs.

After Tea, the Foxes needing 208 from their 40 overs and hoping for a good start, it was not meant to be. Some questionable running in the 2nd over between openers Justin and Tim, saw Tim run out for his very first quack. Then 1 quickly became 2 when in the 3rd over Justin lobbed one up for a simple catch and out for 1.

With the John and Rob now at the crease, the Foxes needed some stability but that stability faltered within 6 balls, in the 4th over, first Rob with a quack and then incoming #5 batsman Ricki with a shiny quack, both falling foul to the swinging opening bowler. 7/4 off 4 overs.

Jon joined the Skipper at the crease, but it wasn’t long before another wicket fell, with the skipper on 14 slapped a shot to point for a solid catch. 23/5 off 7 overs. Tiger was next in, and the Foxes began to pick the score up a notch, until the 11th Over when Tiger was bowled for 10. 2 more wickets fell quickly with Dave and Craig falling for 3 and quack respectively. 54/8 off 14 overs.

JJ was next to the crease, but again the partnership was shortlived as Jon fell to the change in bowling, for 26. Which brought Michael to the crease, JJ, 17 and Michael, 5*, stifled the bowling attack until the 25th over when JJ was caught for a well played knock. Foxes bowled out for 94 from 24.4 overs.

A disappointing day for the Foxes.

Dot.
